This date, May 8, is a holiday of sorts at O&M and certainly in the field of Austrian economics. As Peter is traveling today and has thus far not taken the opportunity to remind us of the day’s significance, I simply refer you to one of Peter’s earlier posts and wish you (and Peter) a Happy Hayek-Klein Day.

Thanks Mike. I have been in the Washington, DC area. This morning I visited a friend and presented a research paper at the Fed Board of Governors. As my friend and I were waiting to catch an elevator, who should walk up but Ben Bernanke himself (accompanied by one bodyguard). My friend introduced us and said it was remarkable that I was giving a seminar on my birthday. I then asked the Chairman if he would sing me Happy Birthday, which he did (only one stanza, though, and without much enthusiasm). I wish I’d thought to say “It’s also the birthday of F. A. Hayek, whose works you might consider reading.”

    Email Bernanke and tell him.

    Many happy returns, Peter!

I really did ask him to sing. Believe it or not, he may have a comparative advantage in central banking.
