I can attest that the hipster PDA actually works. There’s a ton of stuff out there on this, but you should certainly see http://www.diyplanner.com/
Interestingly, many users of the hipster are uber-teched IT people. There’s simply something about paper for implementing Dave Allen-style GTD systems that computer-based systems can’t replicate.
