Geoff Hodgson’s 9th International Workshop on Institutional Economics takes place 21-22 June 2007 at the University of Hertfordshire. The theme is “Property, Money, and Firms: The Forgotten Role of Law and the State.” (Um, “forgotten”?)

I would appreciate it if Peter could elaborate upon the comment, “(Um, “forgotten”?)”. Actually, I am not sure what “The Forgotten Role of Law and the State” means.
It could be parsed:
The [Forgotten Role of Law] and the State, or
The Forgotten [Role of Law] and [the State], or
The Forgotten [Role of Law and the State], or
The Forgotten [Role(s) of Law and the State], if the author intended plural roles.
But now that I’ve written this, I guess that that Geoff Hodgson intends the first.

Sorry, didn’t mean to be cryptic. I assume he means #3 above. What I meant was that there’s a huge “new institutional” literature on the role of the law and the state in the emergence of property rights, money, and the firm. I don’t quite see how these roles could be considered “forgotten”!
